What we did and saw:
We went into Waterton Park in the morning and finally got a good cup of coffee. (There's none to be found in the western states). We checked out the Waterton Townsite campground (the one we couldn't get into the night before). It's not very nice, just a big field that you put your tent up. I guess people view it as a place to sleep and thats's all. It fills up by noon everyday.
We started a hike up a mountain and joined a group hiking to the US Border on a 'peace hike'. We listened for a bit to lecture one of the guides was giving on topology and geological history of the area. We got absolutely soaked on the way down and took over the town's public (womans) washroom, pulled in our suite cases from the car and got into dry clothes.
Arrived in Rossland BC and decided to motel it for our last night. The Olympic biathalon (x-country skiing and shooting) team (or hopefuls) from Edmonton were staying at the same motel. We were surrounded by ruddy teenagers clomping around. We had passed about 20 women cycling on the highway on our way in. They were part of the team staying at our motel.
Went into the town of Rossland, and had a big meal at the local trendy restaurant. I think we still smelled of smoke.
Animals we saw
Deer : In Wateron Park, walking back from our hike to the car through the camping ground there we saw lots of deer. Gophers : Same park. Lots of holes in the ground and if you were still, you could see the gophers run out, look at you, and run back in. Fox : Same park. We saw a fox, standing perfectly still, a few feet from a gopher hole, waiting for the gopher to come out. We didn't wait around to see what happened. (It was raining).
